Where we are

Our Congregation was founded in Turin, Italy, on 10th December 1834, thanks to the work of a married couple, Carlo Tancredi Falletti and Giulia Colbert, the Marquis and Marchioness of Barolo.

Through our specific mission we are called to be “instruments of Divine Providence”. We have impressed in our minds and hearts that we are destined to glorify God through our educative service to the little ones and the poor. With an attitude of mercy we meet them wherever they are, in order to prevent and take care of their physical and spiritual poverty. We relieve their unhappiness so as to make the image of the Son of God shine in each one (C 38).

In communion with the Church, that is sent by the Spirit to announce Christ “to the ends of the world”, each of us feels she is a “universal sister”. She inserts herself into the environmental, social and cultural realities in which the providential plan of God places her and bears witness with her life and her works that Christ loves and saves every person (C 38).

Sister Mary Enrichetta Dominici, who was the Superior General from 1861 till her death in 1894, gave new impetus to our Religious Family, strengthening its spirituality on the Trinitarian intimacy, and opening it to the horizons of the mission “Ad Gentes”.

Mother Enrichetta strongly desired that God and His love be known to the whole world, because “it is impossible to know Him and not love Him.” Hence in 1871 she sent the first six missionaries to India. Being present right from the beginning at Secunderabad, the Sisters spread out to the various States. And today, they are organized into 5 Provinces: Central India, North India, South India, West India and East India.

In 1920, the Italian Province has opened a Community in Switzerland to render service to the emigrants and in 1952 we were sent to the United States of America to work for missionary conscientization and animation.

In the years following Vatican Council II, our presence as Sisters of St. Ann spread in many other countries like: Brazil, Philippines, Mexico, Cameroon, Peru, Argentina and United Kingdom (belonging to the Province of West India).
