Re-election of Mother Francesca Sarcià

Even if the sun seemed to be overcast by clouds, our discernment was enlightened by God’s Spirit, guiding us to re-elect with joy Mother Francesca Sarcia. Confident that His divine wisdom guided each one of us in this election process, we can be assured that our newly re-elected Mother General will continue to animate our Religious Family with diligence, fidelity and dynamism in the next six years.

As a tradition, soon after the reading of the result of the election, the most senior Sister in the capitular hall (Mo. Franceshina) had to ask the newly elected Mother if she will accept the post…and having given her consensus, the Crucifix containing the relic of the Holy Cross was handed on to her.

The capitulars gave a resounding applause, and the Community of the Generalate also came to share our joy. Each one gave a filial embrace to Mother.

Then the assembly was convoked in the Chapel for the prayer, which started with the words of Mother Enrichetta who, when elected as Superior General prayed and felt God’s message in her heart: “I am the Superior of this Institute and I take charge of its needs….now you be concerned with my Church and not the other.” Mother then continued to profess the Creed and took her oath on the Bible for her fidelity to His teachings.

At the onset, Mother Francesca thanked the Sisters for their trust and recommended to them for the next sessenium prayer, unity and poverty.

Our joy continued at the table where we sang the blessing accompanied by all possible instruments, ending with the cake cut by the three Mothers.

In the afternoon, after reading the minutes, we continued the work with the polls to get some ideas on the vote of the General Councilors.

But the surprise for all was the celebration of Vespers, carefully prepared by the liturgical group in all languages. At the moment of the Magnificat, the Mother brought a lamp to the altar as an expression of her renewed yes but preceded by the Sisters who performed a Cameroonian dance. Furthermore, we wanted to express our adhesion and that of all the Sisters of the Congregation to the Mother by bringing to the altar the flags of each nation where the SSA are present.

So present in the circle of the Sisters who shook hands with the Mother in front of the altar, we joined the YES to the Lord.

Congratulations and best wishes from LASA
